Earlier this 2011 season, Grand Canyon Whitewater partnered with the Native Voices program to contribute to the creation of a documentary of what the Grand Canyon means to the surrounding Native American tribes. 6 Tribes were represented on a 10 Day white water rafting trip punctuated with stops for filming, storytelling and hikes to sacred ancient ruins.
“The highlight of the trip had to be the rapids! Crystal, Hermit, Diamond Rapids were all exhilarating! Just being in the Grand Canyon was exciting! It was my first time on the river, and being Hopi I have heard many stories. When you come to an area that you have heard about and then see it, your heart and mind feel excited! I was very glad to experience the trip, it made me look at life again in a different way. I felt at home being on the river and it was great to meet our guides, Lyndsey and Joe. They are great people.”
