Yeah—what about your hat when you are headed for a Grand Canyon raft trip? What’s so important about a hat when you are going on a Colorado River trip?
Colorado River rafting in the Grand Canyon means being outdoors 24/7 for the duration of your rafting adventure. This is Arizona, people. The sun is blazing hot and it can be relentless when the skies are clear. Your hat is your first line of protection against the burning rays of the sun. Your head gear should protect your face and neck from the sun. You’ve heard the ads. Consider a wide brim that will protect both your face and your neck. One that does not become totally limp when soaking wet. Perhaps the foreign legion look suits you. So don one of those hats with the flaps in the back. I, personally, like the flaps because they serve a dual purpose. Ostensibly, sun protection but, additionally, the flaps keep the cold water from pouring down your back when you get into the big whitewater.
A good hat can also enhance your looks! No doubt you will be taking lots of photos so bring a hat that does it’s job protecting you while still looking really fine. There are no bad hair days when you are white water rafting. Your hat becomes your best accessory. The more tattered and worn and faded your hat, the better.
Choose your hat wisely…..function first.
