A group of us from Grand Canyon Whitewater and our sister company, Arizona River Runners, recently was able to attend our season finale party at the Bar 10 Ranch and Guest Lodge on the Arizona Strip. Many of you river rats are familiar with the Bar 10; it offers the first flushing toilet and warm showers after a 7-day rafting trip!
We took a flight from the South Rim of Grand Canyon to the Bar 10 — that meant we got to fly OVER THE CANYON! It was awesome. We flew right over the Whitmore Helipad, at river mile 187.
We spent 3 fun-packed days at the Bar 10. “You Lie, You Die” Garth even came out to celebrate with us! There is a lot of history between river runners and the Bar 10 Ranch, and we were fortunate enough to have the Bar 10 family relay some of those stories to us.
While many of our rafters only see a few hours of the Bar 10, (mainly just enjoying the showers!) there is SO much that the ranch has to offer.
We went on several ATV rides, rode horses, did a whole lot of skeet shooting, hiked down to the Colorado River from Whitmore Overlook, came face to face with rattlesnakes (!!) in the nature center, told stories around the campfire, slept in covered wagons, rode side-by-side RZRs out to Parashant National Monument, ate a lot of delicious home-cooking, played music and billiards together, learned to rope and laughed a whole lot.
