“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard
Grand Canyon Whitewater has had the pleasure of taking many international travelers on one of the most epic adventures in the United States. We have had passengers from Uruguay, South Africa, Israel, Russia, Ireland and Japan, to name a few. Traveling overseas requires a bit more planning, but fortunately our trips are relatively easy to arrange. Two major international airports are within a 4-hour drive of the Canyon: McCarran International in Las Vegas (LAS) or Sky Harbor International in Phoenix (PHX).
Once you are on the river, the planning is taken off your hands by our experienced guides. They act as chef, teacher, hiking guide, comedian, and protector. You will meet folks from all over the U.S. and experience our unique “melting pot” culture. If English is not your first language, don’t fret! You can still have a safe and enjoyable trip despite language barriers, although you may miss out on some of the finer details of the guides’ discussions. It’s nice if one person in your group can act as interpreter.
When your trip ends, you may want to allow for an extra day to readjust to life above the rim. Traveling abroad can be taxing, and it’s nice to have some time to recharge your batteries.
We recently had a passenger from Belgium who described the trip as the “best decision of her life”:
“I enjoyed the American way of life, the Oreos and the coffee in the morning. The food was excellent, the scenery amazing – a week without computer, email and blackberry… a great experience!”
The vast landscapes of the American Southwest are a welcome change for those from more densely populated countries. We’re here to guide you through it. Find us on Skype! Our name is grandcanyonwhitewater.
