A river guide from one of our fellow Grand Canyon outfitters recently wrote a feature article about some of his favorite aspects of Colorado River tours. Although some of the minor details he mentions are different for GCW trips, we thought his overall message was spot on. His article, “7 Reasons to Explore Grand Canyon by Raft,” ran on a local broadcast company’s website. Check it out and see what you think! My personal favorite is number 7, “Canyon Magic.”
If you’re wondering about our relationship with Steve’s company, by the way, it breaks down like this: There are 16 of us outfitters who are authorized, by the National Park Service, to run river trips in Grand Canyon. We have a special relationship with one of the companies, Arizona River Runners, because we share owners. We also share guides, equipment, menus and a warehouse with ARR. However, we don’t really think of any of the Grand Canyon outfitters as our “competitors.” We think all the outfitters run a great trip and, if we can’t offer the kind of trip you’re looking for, we won’t be shy about referring you to someone we think might be a better fit for you. Of course, we always hope you’ll decide we’re your best fit! But if you’re expecting drama or animosity between outfitters, you’re just not going to find it in this river community. How could anyone have a bad time, or not get along, when you’re in a place as incredible as Grand Canyon??
