We just had our annual meetings with all the Grand Canyon river rafting companies (known as GCROA – Grand Canyon River Outfitters Association) and the Grand Canyon National Park Service at South Rim this week. It is a great time for all of us to come together and discuss the 2011 rafting season. Time spent getting to know the people from the Park Service who oversee everything we do is invaluable.
We were very happy with the outcome of the meetings. The Park was extremely happy with us commercial rafting companies and our performance this past season.
We were able to meet the new Superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park, Dave Uberuaga. He joins us from Mt. Rainier and is excited about his new home in Grand Canyon. He made a point to speak with all of us who were in attendance and gather info about who we are and what we do. We definitely kicked off a great relationship!
We had some great meetings and discussed topics like archaeological site visitation, the tamarisk and tamarisk beetle monitoring program, the Native Voices cultural program, our alternative motorboat project, and the progress of the historic boat museum project.
We’ve got a lot going on beside running white water rafting trips! Be sure to check in here as I’ll keep you updated on the projects Grand Canyon Whitewater is involved in!
