Sorry if you called Grand Canyon Whitewater’s office Tuesday morning to get a message machine, but we were out for good reason.
Many of the guides and staff of Grand Canyon Whitewater gathered at Lees Ferry Tuesday morning to celebrate the launch of the first river trip of the season. It was a wonderful celebration. This trip is a special one dedicated to creating an informative DVD about Native American perspectives of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. Members of six different Native American tribes are on the white water rafting trip with Grand Canyon Whitewater.
We began the morning with a Navajo prayer offering to the river speaking out our prayers for all who venture to raft the Colorado River. We gathered as a Hopi man affixed a prayer feather to the front of the rafts and blessed each Grand Canyon Whitewater guide. The trip also includes an ethnobotanist, a videographer, and a travel writer. What a group, it should be a grand rafting adventure.
