First things first. You’re probably hungry. Great news! The Courtyard offers a complimentary in-town shuttle service for its guests. Run on down to the front desk and set up a ride to Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff. From the square, you are within walking distance of countless restaurants and bars that can accommodate almost any craving. Some of my personal favorites include Pato Thai and Karma Sushi.
Alright, so you’ve got some food in your belly, but there is still a lot of daylight left and you’re not ready to call it a night. Here are some quick options.
Walnut Canyon: Interested in American Indian history? Walnut Canyon was once called home by ancient cliff dwelling peoples. Visitors are welcome to walk the “Island Trail” that skirts the actual dwellings where the Sinagua people once lived.
Museum of Northern Arizona: So you’re kind of a history buff and you’ve got some time on your hands. Check out the Museum of Northern Arizona just northwest of town. Admission is $10 for adults and the museum is open Monday-Saturday from noon-5 p.m.
Mt. Humphreys: Looking for a great view? Look no further! Head northwest of town on Highway 180 until you reach Snow Bowl Road. You can drive up to 9,300 feet and soak up the sights. If you are in town on a weekend, the ski resort runs a scenic chairlift ride that will take you near the highest point in Arizona!
Buffalo Park: Feel like stretching those legs after a long car ride from Phoenix? Buffalo Park offers a magnificent panoramic view of the mountains and surrounding Flagstaff area on a 2-mile trail around the park. Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled. This park was once a wildlife refuge and visitors are often treated with sights of mule deer grazing in the grasslands.
Lowell Observatory: Flagstaff is credited as the world’s first International Dark Sky City. Go check out Lowell Observatory to experience an exceptionally clear night sky.
Our office is located in Flagstaff and we all love this city. If you have any questions about the area, feel free to give us a call and we can help you make the most out of your vacation!
