Make your own pictographs or body paint at Havasu Canyon! (Eco-Friendly of course!) There are all kinds of ways to keep yourself busy and entertained on a Colorado River raft trip. Havasu Canyon is definitely a fan-favorite side hike in Grand Canyon. Havasu Canyon is located in the lower half of Grand Canyon at about mile 156 so anyone on a Full or Lower Canyon white water raft trip would pass by it.
Typically, Havasu has this incredibly aqua blue water that just begs you to swim around in! (Side Note: The Havasupai are the native-American tribe that live in Havasu Canyon. Havasupai means “People of the blue-green waters” and you’ll see why!) It also has some incredible mud. It is more like a whitish-gray pasty clay. It is just FUN! We’ve seen several great ways of ‘using’ this mud while lounging in Havasu Canyon… see for yourself in these photos from passengers!
