Tongue twister? The ravens on Grand Canyon Adventures are relentless…really ridiculously relentless. They LOVE to steal your goodies. In one sense, they help us out. If we happen to miss any little crumb of food on a beach, which we try not to do, they will come and clean up after us. However, if you set your sandwich down while you look the other way to chat with a friend, don’t be surprised if it gets swooped up! The ravens like anything in small bags, and they especially like anything shiny or in crinkly plastic packaging. One afternoon on our rafting tour, we all made sandwiches and carried our lunches up to eat near Havasu Creek. I sat down and laid my bagged sandwich next to me. By the time I got comfortably situated, and my hunger kicked in, a raven had stealthily snatched the whole bag from me! I located the happy raven and my sandwich about 50 feet up on a rock ledge! The moral of the story is always “raven-proof” your surroundings while rafting in Arizona. Keep an eye and close hand on your sandwich, and never leave goodies, granola bars, and such lying around!
