If you wear contact lenses or glasses you might be wondering what is the best option for your Grand Canyon Whitewater trip. For a successful and most enjoyable trip, we suggest using wearing either disposable daily contacts or glasses with a retention strap.
Contacts
Contacts are a great option for your active Grand Canyon trip because they won’t fall off. However, you’ll need to switch your contact lenses out often due to the harsh dry climate and constant contact with sand and dirt. Your eyes may also become irritated if you’ve recently washed your hands, and then change your contact lenses. Per the park service regulations, the water we provide contains a small amount of bleach. You may want to consider bringing extra pairs of disposable lenses to switch out more than once a day and a backup pair of eyeglasses.
Glasses
The biggest advantage to glasses on your rafting trip is that you do not have to touch your eyes. Just put them on and go! To keep from donating your glasses to the river, we recommend using a retention strap and a hard case for storage.
River trips can be tough on your eyes. Be prepared with backup glasses and eye drops!
