What do Grand Canyon river guides do in the Winter? Head back to the big ditch for more boating! Three of our Grand Canyon Whitewater/Arizona River Runners’ guides – Dave, Thea and Tyler – were lucky to get a last-minute permit for a Grand Canyon raft trip due to a cancellation. The 3 launched on a self-supported kayak trip in February and are due back home in just a few days from now. They are on a 12-day trip from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek… and self-support means they are carrying ALL of their food, sleeping gear, equipment, clothes, etc. in their kayaks. There is no bigger boat behind them to support, carry or rescue – just the three of them and their kayaks!
A friend hiked down the Hermit Trail to see them near Hermit Rapid. He snapped these great photos and sent the 3 all of our greetings from the Rim World.
