So, the 2011 Grand Canyon Rafting Tours are all completed. What are the guides doing now? What do they do in the winter while they aren’t guiding white water rafting trips?
Many of Grand Canyon Whitewater’s guides live in Flagstaff, so an easy transition is to follow the water in a different form to the ski hill! Many GCW guides work at Arizona Snowbowl Resort in Flagstaff or other mountains, typically in California or Colorado, as ski patrol, lifties or ski instructors.
Some of the rafting guides head back to school – Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff or other places. Some of our guides head back to TEACH school – Colorado and Utah.
A few guides just take to the open road, grab their backpacks and head out for adventure and traveling. Some of the places our guides will go this winter are New Zealand, Central and South America, Thailand, Alaska, U.S. Road Trips and China. One guide runs safaris in Africa and another helps run an adventure education center in Costa Rica.
It is always fun to hear all the stories of adventure when we all re-connect at the beginning of the next rafting season. Really quite an adventure-loving, thrill-seeking, life-enjoying group of folks!
Come meet us next year on a Colorado River Trip! It’ll be a blast 🙂
