At Grand Canyon Whitewater, we have found zip lock baggies are a great way to keep things dry and protected.  As you are packing for your Grand Canyon rafting tour be sure to include lots of them! You probably already pack things in them like your shampoo and conditioner. Another might hold your medicines or vitamins. Stick that flashlight and some batteries in a bag of its own and put your wallet and house keys in one. The fact that the bags zip close is important. It is a good barrier and protection.

You decide. I’ve seen some really, overly-organized people pack each day’s outfit in its own baggie. But, the point here is that on a Grand Canyon raft trip you will be deluged by water, surrounded by sand, rocks, leaves, ants, mud and all sorts of things that you don’t want throughout your whole bag. So, bring your things in bags, to protect them and also, bring extra bags (maybe a dozen gallon sized) to contain whatever wetness, sandiness, muddiness and/or cruddiness you might encounter.

You never know what can happen on a white water raft trip. Say you get a blister and want to pack away the offending footwear. There’s where zip lock bags come in handy. Maybe your clothes didn’t dry overnight but it’s time to pack up…..grab a zip loc bag. One other handy zip loc bag use…Many trips leave the river via the Bar 10 Ranch and there are wonderful showers there. So, you grab your bag with that complete set of clean clothes, find your towel and soap and the hot water awaits you.

There are no stores to “stop and pick up a few things” rafting down the Colorado River, so bring lots of extra baggies. They don’t take up much room and you will be very happy to have them available so you can zip it.
