Every Grand Canyon Whitewater guest will be provided with several pieces of gear to use on their river trip. One of those will be a smaller dry bag deemed the “day bag.” It is about 7” in diameter and 24” tall. In order to make it waterproof, you’ll roll the top down so you will lose some of that height. Your day bag will have a number on it that matches your larger waterproof bag so that you can identify it.
This day bag can be thought of as your carry-on luggage. You’ll want to keep everything you may need during the day here. Everything else will go into you “checked” large dry bag, and will not be accessible during the day. Most likely during the day you’ll want:
- Sunscreen
- Chapstick with SPF
- Hat
- Rain Gear (Top and Bottom)
- Camera (if is not waterproof, place it in a waterproof case for protection)
- Bandana/Sarong
- Belknap River Guide Book
- Important Medications
To ensure your belongings stay dry, press all of the air out of the bag, roll the top of the bag several times over and clip shut using the two top buckles. You can secure your day bag conveniently to the straps near you on the boat by using the clips at the bottom of the bag. Remember to take your day bag off the boat with you when you get to camp.
