Grand Canyon Whitewater has a new and unique trip in the 2012 Arizona rafting season. The Hiker’s Special is a great way for folks to explore more of the Grand Canyon’s landscape accessible only via a rafting trip on the Colorado River. The Hiker’s Special is Grand Canyon Whitewater’s longest motorized rafting trip. By using the motorized rafts rather than oar-powered rafts, we will be able to cover river miles at a speed double that of the current leaving more time for off-river exploration and discovery. There are three options for the Hiker’s Special. The first is the 11-Day Full Canyon trip from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek on April 9-19, 2012. If you don’t have that much leisure time, choose either the 5-Day Upper Canyon trip from Lees Ferry to a hike-out at Phantom Ranch on April 9-13 or the 7-Day Lower Canyon trip starting with a hike-in to Phantom Ranch and continuing to Diamond Creek, April 13-19. April is a special time in the Canyon. The mild weather is much appreciated with highs in the mid-80’s and lows in the mid-50’s. The spring bloom is in full vigor, revealing a beautiful array of scarlet, purple and yellow flowers amongst the green cacti and orange-red sandstone.
