Those lucky enough to be in Grand Canyon this week are in for a real treat, as long as clouds cooperate and don’t obstruct the view. But, if you don’t happen to be in the canyon this week, don’t worry. As long as you can get yourself to a dark spot, with minimal light pollution, you should be able see some pretty spectacular shooting stars — possibly as many as 50 an hour! Just settle in, tilt your head back, and enjoy — no fancy equipment required. Some of our favorite viewing spots are Dark Sky cities, like Flagstaff, Ariz.
Summertime Star Show Starts Tonight!

If you’re an avid stargazer, you probably already know what tonight, Aug. 11, is. Yep, you got it — it’s the first night of the annual Perseids meteor shower, one of the biggest meteor showers of the year. Visibility for the summertime star show should be exceptional in 2015, with this week’s waning moon. Astronomers predict a fantastic display Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the peak hitting Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
