Sticker shock can occur when looking at the prices for a Grand Canyon rafting trip, but it’s important to note that the price is pretty inclusive. Think of what you spent during your last vacation. Even if you’re a good planner and know lodging and activity costs ahead of time, you can blow the budget on meals, coffee breaks, ice cream stops, souvenirs, etc. But on a river trip, there isn’t anywhere to spend money once you’re underway – no surprises or impulse buys!
Guided trips take the guesswork out of your vacation planning and add depth to your experience. Here are just a few reasons going guided is worth the investment.
Pre-Trip Support:
Our friendly, knowledgeable office staff have all rafted the canyon and are available to answer any question, from picking a trip to last-minute preparations. Once you select a trip, you’ll receive a detailed Trip Information Packet, including hotel booking links and our packing list crafted from decades of experience. Timely email reminders will keep you on task and give insider info about life on the river and some of our most frequently asked questions.
You’ll Love Your Guides:
Many of our reviews, mention our guides by name. We don’t ask guests to do this, but they often feel compelled to rave about their specific guides. Your guides will navigate legendary whitewater rapids and so much more! Read on.
Local Knowledge:
Your guides will share stories of past river runners, explorers, and native peoples. You’ll learn about the unique flora, fauna, and geological formations in the Grand Canyon. They’ll offer tips and advice on everything from hanging on in the rapids to setting up camp.
Hidden Gems:
We know people are used to spending hours (sometimes days) researching and planning every detail of their upcoming vacation, but there is no need to for this trip! Your guides will use their extensive knowledge of the canyon to lead you to scenic vistas, ancient dwellings, pictographs, and waterfalls. The surprises that await you are often some of the most memorable experiences for guests. Guests frequently ask what stops they will make on their trip, but we can’t predict it. You could spend a lifetime in the canyon and not see all of its treasures, so trust your guides to show you their favorite spots in addition to some of the iconic crowd-pleasers.
Delicious Food:
Guests rave about the cooking—there are no dehydrated meals here. Our massive coolers allow you to enjoy fresh eggs, meat, cheese, fruit, and vegetables throughout the trip. Most evening meals also include an appetizer and dessert. As if that isn’t enough, we have a treasure trove of snacks, seltzers, water, and sodas available at all times. Oh, and did we mention your guides do all of the cooking? Sit back, relax, and enjoy dining al fresco.
Beginner-Friendly Convenience:
We take care of permits, transportation, meal planning and provide all rafting, camping, and cooking equipment. Your guides will demonstrate how to use the gear—no previous camping or rafting experience is required, but you do need to be prepared for the physical nature of the trip. If you’re a seasoned camper, you’ll appreciate the fact that we take care of all the planning and packing!
Enjoy a Real Vacation:
You’ll have a few duties, like washing your own plate, setting up your camp spot, and helping unload the rafts with the duffel line, but other than that, we’ve got you! Kick back and read a book or gather with old and new friends to swap stories of the day’s adventures. Many families have commented that their Grand Canyon trip provided them time to connect with one another, unlike any other vacation. Not being responsible for planning tomorrow’s logistics or researching the best restaurant to eat at allows you to be in the moment – the digital detox is refreshing.
Ability to Budget:
Although your trip cost covers most things, a few items aren’t included. Travel insurance, some transportation options, and gratuity are extra. However, once you know which trip type you want, we provide detailed information so you can budget accordingly. If you’re coming with a group, we will work with you to set up separate invoices for each person/family so everyone can easily see what they owe and when it’s due.
Payment Plans Available:
If you book in advance, we can help you set up monthly payments. For example, if you book our popular 7 Day Motor trip 18 months in advance, your monthly payments would be around $300 per person. Our sister company, Arizona River Runners, offers a 3 Day Escape trip which would be around $125 per person per month if you book 18 months in advance. Be sure to review the reservation and cancellation policies. We know it’s hard to spend additional money to get insurance, but it’s way better than having something unexpected happen that forces you to cancel your trip and lose what you’ve paid.
Unforgettable Adventure:
Rafting the Grand Canyon is a bucket list trip for many people, which is the biggest reason folks find a way to save for it. Exploring one of the seven wonders of the world lives up to the hype – gazing at towering canyon walls, floating peacefully in between thrilling whitewater rapids, watching for wildlife, and camping under a blanket of stars. But don’t just take our word for it, read what a past guest has to say:
“I cannot recommend going with Grand Canyon Whitewater more highly. Rafting the Grand Canyon has been on my bucket list for decades. You can therefore imagine the anticipation I had for this trip. Our group ended up to be 26 guests with 4 crew members. Our group was exceptionally kind and congenial. We watched out for each other, and enjoyed each other’s company on and off the rafts.
Here are reasons why I give Grand Canyon Whitewater 5 stars:
1) Caring, hardworking and safety-minded crew: Jason, Riley, Easy & Sheila. Highly organized, worked together like clockwork, warm, fun. 2) Lots of really exciting whitewater including 10-rated rapids! 3) Adventures off the rafts to the most wondrously beautiful waterfalls, canyons, side rivers and streams. 4) DELICIOUS food and LOTS of it, snacks and drinks available all the time 5) Everything provided including: sleeping bag, sheet, pillow, tarp, dry bags, chairs, tents. All you have to bring is your clothes, the suggested items, good physical health, and open-minded attitude. The information packet and videos provided ahead of time, and Amanda’s help in the office provided all the info.
If you want to go with the BEST and most professional company on the river, choose Grand Canyon Whitewater. You can’t put a price on your own safety and what is likely going to be one of the peak experiences of your life. Do it!” – TripAdvisor review by yay4films from Oregon
